A perfect addition to your Christmas concert. Clever voice leading, stacking harmonies, and just the right amount of repetition make this well-paced arrangement easy to learn and a joy to sing. And because it is an arrangement with broad interest even for younger choirs, Teresa has also adapted it into a very nice 2-part setting that also works with the recorded instrumental tracks. This traditional Christmas spiritual has a lively gospel feel, conservative ranges, and a syncopated piano accompaniment. It will lead to the place where the Christ was born, Rise up, shepherd, and follow. It works great as a 3-part mixed setting, with the third part working well for changed or changing boys' voices, as well as for girls with a nice lower range. Theres a star in the East on Christmas morn, Rise up, shepherd, and follow. This beautiful old Christmas spiritual has always been a favorite, so it was a work of love for Teresa Jennings, who has produced a striking new arrangement for your choir. The Ten of Cups is a favourable card for love affairs and could represent a brand-new, joyful connection or a lifetime commitment, like getting engaged, getting married, or beginning a family. This card frequently emerges when you are accompanied by the people you love and have a strong bond with. Your life is full of peace and friendship that you have created, and as you spread this love to others, your heart becomes even bigger. The Ten of Cups represents sentimental satisfaction, pleasure, and excitement, especially in your connections and family. The picture-perfect setting exudes divine love and genuine emotional fulfilment. The rainbow signifies the passing of trying times and is a promise from God that all will be alright. The family residence represents security and comfort, while the rolling hills represent fertility and the river denotes the flow of feelings. They also share this love with those around them. With a home, children, and most importantly, fulfilling love, these two have all they could possibly want. They turn to face their hilltop home and notice a gorgeous rainbow in the sky that is made up of ten cups. The control lever should operate (via a cable) a control valve which has hoses back to the winch. How is the oil level in the winch? The 3305 winch is diaphragm controlled and not commonly found on crawlers, as discussed in a previous post where you asked about it. With the crawler running in neutral have you looked behind the winch to see if you can see the power shaft turning? If the shaft is turning, the issue of the winch not working is in the winch control or winch itself, it has a self contained hydraulic system. It will likely only work in neutral or forward, not in reverse. I believe most units with the HLR and a winch did not have a disconnect lever, the power shaft runs all the time. An early original printing might not have something that was added in a later printing of the same publication. I believe the splits in the 450 series serial numbers come into play mostly in the parts catalogs, not the service or operator's manuals which often show the various equipment used across the series. One of your photos shows you have a shifter for 1, 2, 3, 4 just at the front right corner of the left arm rest. You posted in the past that you have a shifter between the steering levers with L-H-N-R, and the photos in your gallery on the picture server confirm that. Thanks in advance for any advice I receive! Are there any easily visible tell tales as to which trans I have? Or any idea where the PTO control lever is? I thought I had a H-L-R trans but now I'm second guessing that assumption. I think the obvious first step will be positively identifying which trans I have. I did find (in the clutch section of the tech manual) that constant mesh trans have a grease zerk in that location where the control lever should be (as per fig. I'm still researching best I can but was hoping someone here could shed some light on the subject for me and tell me where the PTO control lever is so I can engage it to operate the winch. I'm trying to figure out how to engage the PTO so I can operate the winch but the PTO control/engagement lever is not where it is suppose to be according to the operators manual, only a grease zerk (again, not sure if the operators manual is for the right series) and the tech manual simply references that there is a control lever and the parts manual doesn't even have a PTO section nor can I find any reference to it in the transmission section. All the manuals are for a straight 450 but since there is a split somewhere in the 450 model, it leaves me unsure if I have the exact right manuals or not. I also picked up an operators manual and parts manual for the machine off of eBay which I'm not positive those are the correct ones either (no serial number and not knowing the year/model series is a real pain for parts). It also came with a tech manual but do not think it was the original so I'm not sure if it is for the correct series of straight 450s. The machine came outfitted with a 3305 winch off of a 540A skidder which is operated by a manual lever (assumed to be rigged up by the previous owner since it isn't a stock 450 winch) along with a log arch. I have a straight/plain 450 crawler loader (unsure of year due to serial number placard missing). It may differ depending on the region and time of year. For those who haven't seen any of my previous posts. This study was carried out in mid-February 2022. In this mesmerizing sequel to The Dragonbone Chair, best-selling author Tad Williams returns readers to the troubled realms of humans, Qanuc trolls, and Sithi, as the dark magic and terrifying minions of the undead Sithi ruler, Ineluki the Storm King, spread their seemingly undefeatable evil across the realm of Osten Ard.Īs the very land is blighted by the power of Ineluki’s wrath, the tattered remnants of a once-proud human army flee in search of a last sanctuary and rallying point - the Stone of Farewell, a place shrouded in mystery and ancient sorrow. But this color scheme has more to do with Victorian ideas of virgins and weddings and purity-associations that almost certainly did not exist in the ancient world-than any real historical precedent. All the potential brides in Long’s painting wear draped garments in cream or white, while the men bidding for them wear a mix of darker hues. In 1875 the British artist Edwin Long painted an interpretation of the scene, based on Herodotus’s description as well as imagery from Assyrian artifacts. Herodotus does not say what these women wore, but it’s likely that someone tried to make sure they looked their best, like apples shined up for display in the apple cart. One can surmise that the women of Babylon’s marriage market were expected to look market-ready, so as to fetch the highest possible price (as well as, presumably, be sold into the most comfortable circumstances). Edwin Long’s The Babylonian Marriage Market (via Wikimedia Commons) The “most beautiful” were chosen as wives for the wealthy, while the “ugliest” women who did not sell were given away to commoners along with monetary compensation for their upkeep, like problematic farm animals. Herodotus’s Histories tell of the Babylonian marriage market, where each year the marriageable young girls were brought before a crowd of men who bid for them, like slaves, based on their beauty. While the peoples of ancient Sumer, Babylon, and Assyria celebrated romantic and erotic love in art and poetry, the question of marriage was far more transactional. And because there were no weddings, for a long time there could be no true wedding dresses, either. Marriages were made official through the signing of a contract or some other means of formalized agreement, but a marriage was not generally considered to be a spiritual or even romantic occasion. There are, for example, no wedding ceremonies involving an exchange of vows in the Bible. But although there have been marriages throughout most of human civilization, this does not mean that there were weddings. For these reasons, it was usually a man-woman affair, regardless of a society’s feelings toward homosexuality. Nevertheless, marriage, a social technology, has sprung up in most societies and on every inhabited continent.įor the majority of its existence, marriage has been a worldly matter, having to do with the transfer of property, the creation and support of children, the tracking of bloodlines, and the control of women. While some of us naked apes may find one partner and stay with them forever, never straying, history tells us that it has not been the norm for our species. Unlike swans, ospreys, coyotes, and termites, the primates known as Homo sapiens do not generally mate for life. But this has not always been the case, and the wedding dresses we hail as “traditional” are, for the most part, relatively modern, no matter where they come from. We ascribe meaning to these color choices, as if white could only suggest purity and new beginnings, while red could only signify life, luck, and celebration. We tend to focus on color, with white being the preferred choice for brides in the West, from Norway to Argentina, and red being the more appropriate color for traditional Eastern brides, be they from South Sudan or Singapore. Nowadays, whether we are referring to the voluminous white confections found in Western bridal magazines or the sleek red phoenix dresses with mythical roots that are still worn by brides in China today, the wedding dress has become its own kind of talisman. When it came time for their own daughter to marry, a real phoenix flew out of a mountain and presented the girl with a colorful phoenix dress all her own. To make sure that the union was a lucky one, the empress dressed the princess in a beautiful phoenix dress and phoenix crown, and Panhu carried his bride off to live in the southern mountains. He succeeded, changed into human form, and was engaged to the emperor’s daughter. Panhu was not a man, but being loyal and courageous he promised to become one upon vanquishing the enemy so he could marry the princess. One day, the emperor proclaimed that any man who could bring him the head of his enemy would be given the hand of his daughter in marriage. This dragon-dog, named Panhu, was the servant of an emperor, who was at war with a fractious general. Once upon a time, in a green and misty country at the center of the world, there lived a clever dog who was also a dragon. An ancient Chinese myth contains one of the oldest known references to such a garment, and it goes something like this: The history of the wedding dress is shorter than the history of weddings, and even shorter still than the history of marriage. The icon indicates free access to the linked research on JSTOR. Intersect makes a shape from the overlapping space between objects.Minus Front (Subtract) removes or “cuts” out the topmost shape from the bottom shape.Unite (Add) creates one single shape resulting from the shapes selected.Shape modes will create a shape with just one color from your selected shapes. Under Shape Modes, you’ll see four options listed below. In order to use these modes, you’ll have to first select at least two overlapping shapes. Each mode will create different results depending on which one is selected. In this window are two categories Shape Modes and Pathfinders. Locate the pathfinder window by heading to Window > Pathfinderįrom here you’ll see a bunch of different options available. Pathfinder also speeds up our workflow tremendously, so it’s definitely worth the time spent to master! This quick tutorial will help get you started. We use Pathfinder all the time when designing logos and other graphics to ensure we create clean paths that output correctly. In this tutorial, we show how to use the Pathfinder window inside of Adobe Illustrator (but it is very similar when using InDesign as well.) This set of tools is very useful for combining, dividing, and subtracting overlapping objects. I hope this has helped you feel a little more comfortable building shapes within Adobe Illustrator. If you use Adobe Illustrator or InDesign, you’ve likely seen the Pathfinder window, but may not be fully aware of how powerful a tool it really is. Now as you click or drag over shapes, they will be removed. Alternatively, you can hold down the Option key (Mac OS) or Alt key (Windows) to switch to subtraction mode. While using this tool, you can click and drag over areas you’d like to unite. Shape Builder ToolĪn alternative method to achieve some of these same results is to use the ”Shape Builder Tool.” After selecting all of the shapes you want to manipulate, select this tool found on the left toolbar or by using the shortcut (Shift+M). You can also use The Boolean Game to practice trying to make shapes using these four tools. These tools may seem a little complicated at first glance, but after using them a bit, you will quickly discover how useful they can be. Leaving you with a new shape that consists of the areas where your two shapes did not overlap. The ”Exclude” tool is the opposite of the intersect tool. The ”Intersect” tool leaves you with a new shape that consists only of the areas where your two shapes overlap The ”Minus Front” tool removes the front shape and all areas that overlapped with the shape behind it. The ”Unite” tool simply joins all selected shapes into one single shape. If you are using multiple boxes that are the same color, make sure to look at your layers panel so you know which layer is on top. Some of these tools have different outcomes based on your layer order. If you don’t see the pathfinder toolbar, then you can open it by selecting the “Window” drop-down at the top and selecting “Pathfinder.” I would have saved myself tons of time if I had just slowed down for a minute and researched how each button works. If you’re anything like I was when first learning the program, then you’re probably familiar with clicking each button in this toolbar until you get the results you were hoping for. How to use Adobe Illustrator’s Shape Building Toolsįirst things first: find the “Pathfinder” tool bar. Don’t forget, you can access the entire Adobe Creative Suite for free in Ignite Studio’s Digital Media Labs. Read on to learn how to use Adobe Illustrator’s shape building tools. In this article, I’m going to discuss some of the features that I use very frequently that I remember struggling with when first getting started in the program.
